Now Recruiting 2026 Grant Application Reviewers and Chairpersons
The Administration for Native Americans (ANA), a program office of the Administration for Children and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, invites experienced reviewers and new subject matter experts to participate in our 2026 Merit Panel Reviews.
As ANA marks over 50 years of partnership and progress, it has announced new grant program areas that focus on building economies that strengthen families—and it needs your expertise!
This summer, ANA will host multiple two-week grant review panels. Reviewers will work in teams to evaluate and score grant applications based on criteria outlined in the NOFOs. This year’s portfolio includes both ANA’s long-standing programs—Native American Language Preservation and Maintenance (P&M), Esther Martinez Immersion (EMI), and Environmental Regulatory Enhancement (ERE)—and two exciting new opportunities:
- EAGLE (Economic Advancement Grants for Local Empowerment)
- AI3 Action Institute—Artificial Intelligence for American Indians
Together, these programs support Native communities in advancing economic development, language preservation, environmental stewardship, and emerging technologies.
ANA is seeking reviewers with diverse expertise to help ensure a high-quality, fair review process. Your perspective is essential to this work. To be considered, reviewers and chairpersons must complete a Reviewer Profile and upload a resume. Please note that ANA is using a new system this year to collect reviewer information so everyone must complete a reviewer profile in this system to be considered.
ANA is interested in reviewers and chairpersons who have subject matter expertise and can also work collaboratively with others, and who have:
- Experience in community-based projects for ANA’s program areas
- Experience working with Native communities including Tribes or Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Analytical skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
Expectations:
- Complete online training modules and a Merit Review kick-off virtual meeting
- Use the web-based Application Review Module (ARM) for evaluating applications, and be able to use other technology (reliable internet, computer or laptop, virtual meeting platforms, word processing applications, etc.)
- Review 5 to 7 grant applications per session (Monday to Friday for 12 days including one weekend)
- Work independently and as a team to read, analyze, discuss, and score applications
- Each panel includes three reviewers and one chairperson
- Commit your time and have a flexible schedule for a successful review panel
- Reviewers and chairpersons will be compensated for each completed application review
